Abraham (Abram)

Abraham (Abram)
(fl. ?19th-16th cent, BCE)
   Israelite patriarch. He left Ur and travelled to Canaan. God appeared to him and promised that his offspring would inherit the earth. The Lord made a covenant with Abraham and tested his faith by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 11:26—25:10).
